Competition on Correcting the Bad Translations on Bilingual Signs in Public Have you ever seen such bilingual signs in Public before? Have you ever seen the foreigners puzzled by the public signs in scenic spot during your journey? The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is already on the schedule; a seemingly insignificant sign represents much more than meet the eye. It is of great importance that we clear out these bad translations. Come on, pick up your camera, find out these Chinglish signs and send the photos to us, you will probably have the chance to have your photos exhibited on the Internet and get excellent awards! Competition Instructions:
I. Requirements: 1. Participants must be undergraduates and graduates now studying at universities in the mainland, Hong Kong or Macao. 2. Please give the information about when and where you took the photos and indicate where the mistakes are in the photos. You may give your own version of the translation if you like. 3. If you email photos to us, you may first use WinZip/WinRAR software to compress them. Your attached document should be within 5MB. There are no requirements on the format of the photos. 4. If you send or deliver us photos in printing paper, please attach explanations of the photos in your mail. 5. Ways of contact including your name, major, grade, and the college, university where you study, phone number, email, and address should be attached to the photos. II. Closing date for submission: October 30, 2007 (If you send the photos by mail, the date of the postmark will be referred to.) III. Prize and selection criteria: Winners will be awarded certificates of merit from the ASC of the RUC, and trophies offered by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press and the Australian Embassy. There will be three top prize winners, five first prize, nine second prize, fifteen third prize winners and several special prize winners.
